The 100-Level Spanish coordinator oversees all sections of Spanish 111 and 112. These courses meet MWF for 50 minutes, but both courses have online homework students are to take regularly via different online platforms for homework. The coordinator creates the syllabi and course calendar; organizes instructors and course registrations for the registrar; updates exams as needed; assigns the MindTap assignments with Cengage; assigns exam dates and content; creates the Canvas Course Master site; sets up En Vivo sessions with Linguameeting; provides the instructors with the Canvas sites and course materials (syllabus, syllabus quiz, MindTap registration information, investigations and rubrics, composition and rubrics, oral exams and rubrics…). The position requires strong interpersonal communicative skills, attention to detail and familiarity with technology (Microsoft Office, Sharepoint, Google Docs, Canvas, online homework platforms, etc.).

The goal of this Advisory Board was to connect with instructors who were using MindTap World Languages to understand how the platform was working for them and learn what issues instructors were experiencing with the platform in order to inform future enhancements. As an Advisory Board Member (limited to 15 instructors nationwide), I participated in activities such as one-on-one interviews to discuss the expectations of the platform, conducted student surveys to gain feedback on the student experience, hosted an online focus group where we held discussions amongst participants sharing and discussing best practices for successful language courses, and shared feedback around how the experience with MindTap was going. As a faculty member in the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Mississippi, it has been my pleasure to contribute to the graduate mentorship program. When working with new language instructors, I guide mentees through the process of preparing and delivering language lessons. I also supervise their progress as a new instructor through class observations and provide tailored feedback. Additionally, I advise new language instructors with regard to the design and evaluation of formative and summative assessments, including exams and essays. Finally, I track the performance of each new instructor according to the teaching standards of the University of Mississippi and provide each mentee with an annual report of their progress. I find that this approach to mentorship facilitates the professional development of graduate teaching assistants and best prepares them to begin their careers as professional educators.
EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVES
Organizer of the Hispanic Film Festival at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (2019-2021). I organized the inaugural and subsequent annual Hispanic Film Festival at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (2019-2021), featuring independent award-winning films in Spanish and other indigenous languages of the Hispanic countries (Guarani, Quechua, Aymara, and/or Catalan, Galician and Euskera…). The Hispanic Film Fest sought to enrich the moviegoer experience by presenting UT professors as guest speakers before screenings. The festival was made possible with the support of Pragda (Spanish Film Club), Spain Arts & Culture, and the Secretary of State for Culture of Spain. The production was thus awarded with a Pragda Grant (SFC) and counted on the sponsorship of eight departments across UT campus: Department of World Languages and Cultures, Cinema Studies, Department of History, Department of Political Science, Office of Diversity and Engagement, Office of Multicultural Student Life, Center for International Education, and John C. Hodges Library. The festival was opened not only to UT members, but also to the citizens of Knoxville (TN), being therefore the First Hispanic Film Fest in the city of Knoxville as well.
Director of a Theatre Production of four Plays in Spanish at the University of Mississippi (2017). Based on my initial experience of dealing with theatre in the classroom at Brown University (Spring 2013), I organised the theatre workshop at the University of Mississippi (Fall 2017) consisting of a total of 10 sessions where students worked with drama in Spanish. I designed theatrical activities as ice-breakers (body language with instructions in Spanish), a literary workshop (the theatrical text: analysis of Federico García Lorca's Bodas de Sangre - Blood Weeding, 1931), and a writing workshop (writing drama in Spanish: students wrote their own original scripts of four plays in Spanish) concluding in acting rehearsals and a campus-wide final performance. The show took place at the Meek Auditorium in December 2017 (the University of Mississippi), and was sponsored by the office of Diversity Affairs (Office of the Provost), the Department of Modern Languages, and the Department of Theatre Arts (the University of Mississippi).
Editor of the Documentary Film: "Motivation Techniques in the Classroom" (2016). I organised a series of recorded interviews of my students in the class of Span 202 (the University of Mississippi, summer 2016) to gather feedback on the effectiveness of my teaching methodology. I then edited this documentary film based on their interviews (documentary available under "Evaluations" on this website).
Representative for the Spanish soccer team at the 2019 MFLL Soccer tournament. The Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville celebrates an annual soccer tournament with all the students taking foreign language classes. I was the representative (leader) for the Spanish team. The tournament took place on April 10th, 2019 at the Regal Soccer Stadium (UTK). We won the first place at the 2019 tournament.
“El Rinconcito Español”. This is a classroom website that I created with the collaboration of all my students in my Span 111 classes at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (fall 2018). This website was built with the aim of practicing the linguistic aspects learned in the Span 111 course. The contents of the website were decided democratically among my students and it included cultural descriptions of countries such as Spain, Mexico, and Argentina. This was a collaborative, interactive semester project to motivate students in the use of the target language.
